About Enshu

Welcome to En-Gine: Stories of Enshu's People and Festivals

This site shares the stories of the people of Enshu and of the festivals handed down in this land. We simply hope you'll come and visit. Through interviews with diverse 'En-Gines' (people of Enshu) and records of the region's festival floats, we aim to express the various thoughts and feelings of those who live here.

"Enshu" is the area of the former Totomi Province, which today covers roughly the southern part of Yaizu to Kosai. At En-Gine, however, we center on Morimachi, where we live, and the area between the Tenryu River and the Oi River, introducing the people who live there and the festivals handed down in it.

■ En-Gine: The Driving Force Behind Enshu

The name En-Gine (エンジン) embodies several meanings:
• People of Enshu (Enshu + jin / 人)
• Connections and people (En + jin / 人)
• Enshu's DNA (En + gene)
• Round formation (people gathering and working together)
• Engine (the driving force behind something – and of course, Enshu is the birthplace of motorcycles powered by engines.)

Enshu is home to many powerful and fascinating individuals who create, drive, and communicate with unwavering conviction. We call them 'En-Gines' (people of Enshu), and this site is dedicated to exploring their lives, thoughts, and activities in depth.

■ Sharing Regional Charm, Starting with the People

A key feature of this site is its focus on people. By delving into the lives of individual En-Gines, we also introduce the things and events that surround them. Festivals are part of that: Enshu's festival floats have brought communities together and been handed down across generations. The charm of a region is created by the people who live there. That's why we believe that focusing on people reveals the true essence of Enshu.

■ Would you like to experience Enshu for yourself?

The more you get to know the En-Gines (people of Enshu), the more you'll want to visit, experience, and learn about Enshu. We hope this site inspires you to come to this land, meet the people we feature, and connect with their creations and endeavors, or see the festivals we feature. We believe these connections can spark a sense of shared understanding and community among those who gather in Enshu.

Why not listen to the stories (interviews) of the En-Gines, and look through our records of festival floats too? You might discover a new side of Enshu!
