Pedal Your Way to Discoveries: A Biker-Turned-Store-Manager's Vision for a Utopia of People and Town.

Interviewed on: 2025-10-05

Morimachi, often called the "Little Kyoto of Enshu," is a peaceful town with a welcoming hub for visitors. Just a 6-minute walk from the Tenryu Hamanako Railroad's "Enshu-Mori Station" lies "Eldorado Morimachi," a cycle shop filled with the scent of wood. This area is the birthplace of YAMAHA's "PAS," the world's first electric-assist bicycle's core component, making this shop central to that story.

Rika Yoshikawa, the store manager, greets visitors with a sunny smile. Born and raised in Morimachi, she rediscovered the charm of her hometown after living away for work and marriage, and now passionately shares its appeal.

The shop's origins lie in a town revitalization project sparked by hometown tax donations. More than just selling and renting bicycles, it aspires to be an "Eldorado" - a utopia connecting people with the town and with each other. The name carries on the legacy of a motorcycle shop, one of the family's businesses over 40 years ago. The interior uses plenty of local wood, creating a relaxing space for visitors. It reflects the company's roots as a lumber mill and its deep respect for the region.

Ms. Yoshikawa herself is a genuine biker. After spending her youth riding off-road motorcycles from the age of 18, she now rides through Morimachi with a new partner: a bicycle, continuing to explore its charms. From her lively descriptions of recommended spots and delicious restaurants, using her own handmade maps, her deep love for this town shines through.

Her future goal is to make this place an even more open hub - a place where anyone, from children to the elderly, can easily stop by. She also aims to enhance cycling tours where people can deeply experience Morimachi's history and nature with local guides. This interview delves into Ms. Yoshikawa's challenges as she brings a fresh perspective to her hometown through cycling and the warmth of her personality.
