Morimachi Float: Shiroshita, Tanimotosha

Saturday, September 6, 2025

The name comes from Tanimoto Shrine, the tutelary shrine of the Shiroshita district. With its harmony of carvings, painting and metal ornaments, and with pillars also at the center of the left and right sides for a total of six main pillars, it is a magnificent float the neighborhood is proud of. • The carvings depict the myth of Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the deity enshrined at Tanimoto Shrine • The "Tenaga and Ashinaga" carvings beside the front blind are inherited from the old float • The canopy is embroidered with a phoenix and was made by Shirokiya in Tokyo in 1923 (Taisho 12) Builders: Kyuichi Suzuki, Yoshio Totsuka, Saburo Iwamoto (Shiroshita) Carving: Inami Carving Cooperative, Toyama Prefecture (representative: Yutaka Takebe); Ryosaku Nakagawa (Kawaramachi) Painting: Hitoshi Murai (Wakamatsu-cho, Nishio) Wheels: Umetaro Muramatsu (Nakayokocho), Toshio Muramatsu (Nakayokocho) Calligraphy of the float name on the front blind: Hakuju Kuisako (from Honmachi, Morimachi)
