Morimachi Float: Higashigumi, Shinonomekan

Saturday, December 27, 2025

"Shinonome" is an old Japanese word for the sky turning madder-red just before the sun begins to rise. The name "Shinonomekan" is thought to combine the "higashi" (east) of the Higashigumi neighborhood association with a wish for the area's prosperity. The current float is the second generation, built with money from felling trees the district had raised.
