Morimachi Festival: Yamana Shrine "Tenno Festival"

Sunday, October 5, 2025

The "Tenno Festival" of Yamana Shrine is held every July. Its highlight, the "Yamana Shrine Tenno Festival Bugaku," is a rare traditional performing art designated a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. The bugaku, consisting of eight sections, is full of power, beginning with the "Toro no Mai" (Mantis Dance), in which the dancer wears a mantis mask. Together with the "Twelve-Section Bugaku" of Oguni Shrine and Tenkyu Shrine, it was designated a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 1982 as "Bugaku of Morimachi, Totomi."
